| History of Nokia |
By the late 1990s, Nokia had become the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer, with a market share of over 40%. The company continued to innovate, introducing new features like color screens and cameras to its phones.
However, Nokia struggled to adapt to the rise of smartphones in the late 2000s. Its Symbian operating system, which had been successful in the early days of smartphones, was no longer competitive with the likes of Apple's iOS and Google's Android.
In 2011, Nokia announced a partnership with Microsoft to use its Windows Phone operating system on its smartphones. However, this move failed to revive the company's fortunes, and in 2014, Nokia sold its phone business to Microsoft.
Since then, Nokia has shifted its focus to other areas, including networking equipment and licensing its brand for use on other companies' smartphones.
